Eyeglass cleaning cloths are not for directly dry wiping lenses. Their primary function is to wrap the glasses to prevent them from bumping against the case, or to absorb water after cleaning. If you dry-wipe the lenses directly when they are dusty, the cloth and dust particles on the lenses may act like sandpaper, abrading the lens coating.

The correct cleaning method should follow these steps: First, rinse the lenses with running (cold) water to remove surface dust particles. Then, apply a small amount of neutral detergent or a special cleaning solution to the lenses and gently rub the front and back of the lenses and the edges of the frame with your fingertips to dissolve grease and other stains. Next, rinse the cleaning foam off the lenses thoroughly with clean water. Finally, use a special microfiber eyeglass cloth or soft tissue to gently press in one direction to absorb moisture from the lenses, avoiding back-and-forth or circular rubbing.

You can also use lens wipes for cleaning; it is recommended to blow away any dust from the lens surface before use. Avoid wiping the lenses with hot water, alcohol, rough clothing, or ordinary paper towels. Hot water may damage the coating, alcohol may dissolve the coating, and rough materials can easily cause scratches.
