Blue light is a component of natural visible light, emitted by sunlight and electronic screens. It's an important part of visible light; white light doesn't exist naturally on its own, but is produced by mixing blue, green, and red light. Green and red light have lower energy and are less irritating to the eyes, while blue light, with its short wavelength and high energy, can penetrate the lens directly to the macula, potentially causing macular degeneration.

Blue light is divided into beneficial and harmful types. Blue light with wavelengths between 415 and 455 nanometers is considered short-wavelength harmful and requires special protection. Based on the principle of complementary colors, blue and yellow are complementary colors; therefore, glasses with blue light protection typically have slightly yellower lenses than regular lenses. The higher the blocking rate of harmful blue light, the darker the base color of the blue light blocking glasses.
