Eyeglass cloths should not be used directly to dry-wipe dusty lenses, as dust particles may scratch the lens coating during wiping. Proper eyeglass cleaning should follow the "rinse first, then wash" principle.

First, rinse the lens surface with running water to remove dust particles. Then, gently rub the lenses with a neutral detergent or a specialized cleaning agent to dissolve grease and stains. Afterward, rinse the lenses thoroughly with clean water. Finally, gently pat dry with a clean eyeglass cloth or soft paper towel in one direction, avoiding back-and-forth rubbing.

The eyeglass cloth itself also needs regular cleaning to maintain optimal performance. It is recommended to use laundry detergent for washing. When washing, dissolve the detergent in warm water, soak the eyeglass cloth for about fifteen minutes, then wash and dry to remove accumulated dust and oil from the fibers and avoid secondary contamination.

Regular professional ultrasonic cleaning at an optician is recommended. Avoid using alcohol or hot water to clean lenses, as this may damage the coating. Avoid wiping lenses with rough items such as clothing corners or ordinary paper towels. After washing, air dry naturally or use a microfiber cloth to absorb the moisture, and avoid direct sunlight exposure.
